Located at Burdons Hill the Elizabethan Orchard is one of our smallest with just 13 trees but these include apple, cherry, pear, medlar, quince and walnut with varieties such as Dr Hervey and Jargonelle Pear. More information ...... |
Wild Orchard
This linear orchard near St Lythans contains a selection of fruit-bearing trees which you would have found (and can still be seen) in our native hedgerows. Future plantings at The Wild Orchard may include Bullace and Cherry Plum. More information ...... |
Other Orchards
In 1900 there were at least 15 orchards in the parish but most of these have disappeared. References to them carry on in place-names such as Orchard Close and Little Orchard. Wild Fruit
Wild fruit can be found in many of the hedgerows in the parish; some are native fruit trees such as Crab-apples and others have grown from pips that came from discarded apple cores. These are being supplemented by plantings of Crab-apples, Wild Pear (Pyrus pyraster), Wild Cherry and Bird Cherry in various locations. More information ...... |
